Over the past decade, the University of Maryland Medical System has significantly reduced its kidney transplant waiting list, decreasing from 1,600 patients in 2014 to 600 in 2024. However, the cadaveric kidney transplant volume has remained steady, averaging approximately 130 cadaveric transplants annually and has not kept pace with ongoing demand. In 2024, only 20% of waitlisted patients received a cadaveric transplant.
