Over the past five years, the University of Kentucky Medical Center has seen a significant increase in patient demand, with the waiting list growing from 400 to over 600 patients. Unfortunately, the center's cadaveric kidney transplant volume has averaged just 70 transplants annually. In 2024, only 10% of waitlisted patients received a cadaveric transplant, while a third of patients were removed from the list due to deteriorating health while awaiting a transplant.
