Over the past decade, SUNY Downstate Medical Center has maintained a stable kidney transplant waiting list of approximately 250 to 300 patients. Despite performing an average of fewer than 50 cadaveric kidney transplants annually, the center's transplant volume does not align with the demand of the waiting list.
