Recently, Duke University Hospital Transplant Center has seen a significant increase in patient volume, with the kidney transplant waiting list growing from 600 patients in 2020 to nearly 1,000 by 2025. Despite this heightened demand, the center’s cadaveric kidney transplant volume has remained steady at approximately 150 transplants per year. In 2024, just 20% of waitlisted patients received a cadaveric transplant.

This is by far the craziest hospital I have ever been too. I had a transplant in pediatric back in the day, and pediatric was really good. Here I am years later, dealing with the adult side. There are some great doctors and staff, but the few bad ones are really bad and toxic for the hospital. I use to think this place was the best in the business, they were that good. I held other hospitals and facilities to their standard, and everyone else fell short. But the quality is not there anymore and it's all about quantity. Might just be something adults deal with.
