From 2014 to 2021, Iowa Methodist Medical Center was able to closely match cadaveric transplant volume with patient demand, allowing most patients to receive a transplant within 12 months. However, in recent years, the center has gained greater recognition, leading to a significant increase in its waiting list, which surged to nearly 150 patients by 2025. Meanwhile, the number of cadaveric kidneys provided has remained below 100 annually.

I am on the Kidney transplant waitlist in Iowa. i went thru the entire process to get listed. Dr Choudary is simply phenomenal. The entire team including Dr Khan the cardiologist is superb. Awaiting a transplant in Pennsylvania is to to long. I mean what good is it to have almost 10 transplant centers in PA and a sparcity of organs. I am in debt to the Lord for giving me a opportunity to be listed at one of the class A hospitals with outstanding transplant surgeons and health care professionals.

I had been on a waiting list in California and Oregon for 4 and 1/2 years. They kept telling me that I was at the top of the list but that it would take another year. I was on a fast track to dialysis. I found the Iowa Methodist Cenrer on the internet and applied that. Within two weeks, I was there for an evaluation and two weeks later they called and said that I was accepted to their program. The catch was that I had to be there within 6 hours after I received a call that a kidney was available. We decided to move there just in case the call came. Two weeks after moving to Des Moines (a great city) I got the call. I was in the hospital for 3 days. My physician Dr. Chaudry was phenomenal as were the nurses and complete staff. After all the waiting and frustration, I feel that Dr. Chaudry and Iowa Methodist is where I was meant to be in the long run. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience. I am now 5 months post transplant and feeling great. I am so grateful and appreciative to have received this gift of life.

I can not say enough about Iowa Methodist Medical Center and their Transplant Team. From the first day we made a call to the day we went home with my husbands new kidney....they were the most compassionate, caring, efficient an skilled medical team we have ever encountered. Do yourself a favor and c heck it out. In the long run, if you qualify and would be a good candidate, move there and wait it out. It will be worth the wait. We are from NY where the wait times exceed 8-10 years and after one year and no living donor match, we decided we have to do something else! Thanks to wonderful doctors near our home base we found Iowa Methodist. Our lives have been changed and it is a place is ENJOY going back to for our checkups. It is a beautiful city with everything you could want and a great place to heal. We have made lifetime friends and healthcare professionals who we can never thank enough! Thank you Iowa Methodist Transplant Team!
