Memorial Hermann Hospital, University of Texas at Houston Kidney Transplant: Wait Times & Patient Data

Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center received the OPTN's rare “Member Not in Good Standing” designation in February 2025 following an investigation into serious problems within its liver transplant program. The kidney transplant program was also temporarily suspended because it shared leadership with the liver program.

The hospital subsequently restarted its abdominal transplant programs after making leadership, governance, and operational changes. In March 2026, OPTN restored Memorial Hermann to Member in Good Standing following an unannounced site review, while continuing to monitor the program.

Memorial Hermann historically operated a substantial living-donor kidney program, performing 88 living-donor kidney transplants in 2023. Although deceased-donor kidney transplantation has resumed following the program's suspension, at a much lower volume than before, no living-donor kidney transplants were reported in 2025 or 2026 to date.

Although Memorial Hermann has returned to good standing, the seriousness and recency of the OPTN action are important factors to consider when deciding where to pursue transplantation.
