Over the past decade, the Massachusetts General Hospital Transplant Center has seen a substantial rise in patient demand, with the kidney transplant waiting list tripling from 500 patients in 2014 to 1,500 in 2024. However, the increase in cadaveric kidney transplant volume has not kept pace with this growing demand. In 2024, only 10% of waitlisted patients received a cadaveric transplant.
