Lankenau Medical Center voluntarily closed its kidney transplant program in July 2023 after years of declining transplant volume. Lankenau Medical Center remains an operating hospital, but it no longer performs kidney transplants. Lankenau Medical Center is therefore no longer an option for patients seeking kidney transplantation.
Main Line Health said transplant volume had declined enough that maintaining the program was no longer sustainable. Accordingly to UNOS, no new kidney waiting-list registrations occured in 2024 and 2025 and no kidney transplants has been performed since mid 2023.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center itself subsequently shut down in spring 2025 amid the Prospect Medical bankruptcy. Pennsylvania sources report the hospital closure around April 30/May 2, 2025, and CMS subsequently terminated its Medicare provider agreement effective June 21, 2025.
