I was incredibly lucky. Listed at six centers (AND with a rare blood type), I was called by Johns Hopkins for a transplant. Best hospital I could imagine. Every single person on staff was patient-centered. Surgeon, PA's, NP's, nurses, admin staff, maintenance staff (!). Superb facilities, easily accessible. Supportive, warm staff. You needed something - you got it. I've unfortunately been to my more than fair share of hospitals (mostly famous ones in NYC), and none can compare to this experience. I'd drive the 3 1/2 hours there if I had a cold. That's what I mean by lucky. And I have a new kidney.
