For patients relying on a deceased-donor kidney, demand at Pinnacle is high relative to the number of transplants performed each year. Approximately 400 patients are on the kidney waiting list, although about half are currently inactive, while the center performs roughly 30–40 deceased-donor kidney transplants annually.
Another important consideration is waiting-list attrition. In recent years, the number of candidates removed from the list because they died or became too sick for transplant has been similar to the number of patients receiving a deceased-donor kidney.
Harrisburg Transplant Center is a low-volume program, averaging fewer than 30 cadaveric kidney transplants annually over the past decade, while maintaining a waiting list ranging from 250 to 400 patients. Approximately half of the transplants are performed using living donors provided by the patients themselves. In 2024, only 12% of waitlisted patients received a cadaveric transplant.
