Crozer-Chester Medical Center's kidney transplant program closed in January 2023. The hospital itself subsequently closed in 2025. Crozer-Chester is therefore no longer an option for patients seeking kidney transplantation.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in November 2023 that the kidney transplant program had closed that January and that the Pennsylvania Department of Health cited Crozer for failing to provide the required 60-day notice. Accordingly to UNOS, no new kidney waiting-list registrations occured from July 1, 2023.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center itself subsequently shut down in spring 2025 amid the Prospect Medical bankruptcy. Pennsylvania sources report the hospital closure around April 30/May 2, 2025, and CMS subsequently terminated its Medicare provider agreement effective June 21, 2025.
